Stand and Deliver: Understanding the Lower Extremity Kinetic Chain
From one person to the next there is a lot of normal variation in the structure of our legs. Forexample, some hips are more prone to external rotation and some are prone to internal rotation, with implications all down the kinetic chain. These differences are largely the result of joint structure, and need to work with them rather than against them in our movement training!
Study the anatomy of the lower extremity, with an emphasis on how the hip and the foot affect what we see at the knee
Examine common lower limb variations, such as genu valgum (“knock knees”) and genuvarum (“bow legs”) and learn to adapt our Pilates protocols to accommodate or correct them, as appropriate
Learn Pilates protocols for promoting mobility and stability in the lower extremity
